Peacham sits on a high ridge in southwestern Caledonia County, its elevation and position giving residents views of both the Green Mountains to the west and the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the east. The town was settled in 1775 by families from Connecticut and Massachusetts who farmed the rocky, hilly terrain through hard winters, and by the early 1900s it had become known for the same scenic qualities that still draw visitors today — fields, ponds, and birch-lined water framed by forested hills.
This card was mailed from Peacham to Miss Jennie Bell in East Hardwick, just a few miles away in the same county — neighbors writing to neighbors, sharing a view of local water and hillside that needed no further explanation between two people who already knew the landscape by heart.
