An attractive early American edition of Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers, published in New York by James Turney Jr. in 1837.
This volume has been handsomely rebound in full red leather with elaborate gilt tooling to the boards and spine, raised bands, and all edges gilt. The binding is of high quality and presents beautifully on the shelf.
The text is illustrated with forty-three plates by R. Seymour and “Phiz” (Hablot K. Browne), as called for.
Condition: The binding remains tight and structurally sound. Some wear is present at the extremities, including a small loss to one corner. The interior is generally clean, with occasional foxing and light staining consistent with age. All edges are gilt and remain bright.
A highly decorative and collectible early Dickens edition, ideal for both readers and display.
