COLLECTING INTEREST
These three covers offer an interesting combination of Southern postal history, attractive cancellations, and early Bank Note-era Washington stamps.
The two New Orleans covers are especially noteworthy because both were mailed to Miss Lizzie Hamilton, first in Grand Gulf, Mississippi, and later in Staunton, Virginia.
All three carry old handwritten collector notations. The 20¢ figures appear to represent historical valuations rather than postal charges.
CONDITION AND PROVENANCE
All three covers are genuine period envelopes showing the wear expected of items approximately 150 years old. No original letters or contents are included. Reverse sides have no noteworthy postal markings. One has the apparent remnant of an old hinge.
Please examine the photographs carefully for stamp condition, cancellations, handwriting, and envelope wear.
