Large framed nautical engraving titled “Galeasse à la voile”, after the celebrated late-17th-century maritime work associated with Henri Sbonski de Passebon and engraver Claude Randon.
The image depicts an elaborate Venetian galeass under full lateen sail, accompanied by a smaller vessel. Exceptional engraved detail can be seen throughout the rigging, hull, figures and turbulent sea, with attractive hand-applied color enhancing the original line work.
The historic composition dates to approximately 1690 and formed part of Passebon\'s important series of ship designs, engraved by Claude Randon and originally published at Marseille. �

Visible inscriptions include the title “Galeasse à la voile”, along with the Randon/Passebon attribution at lower left and the Marseille royal-privilege inscription at lower right. The sheet also displays embossed circular marks/watermarks visible in the photographs.
This particular impression has not been definitively dated. Period and later impressions of Randon\'s plates are known, including documented late-19th-century examples, so it is being offered conservatively as an antique/vintage impression rather than represented as an original 1690 printing. �
