On the reverse of each cup is a charming engraved bird set within a natural scene, continuing the motif around the piece.Both cups are fully marked with Gorham\'s signature Lion, Anchor, and G trademark, along with \"STERLING,\" the shape number \"B23,\" and the date letter \"L,\" which corresponds to 1879 — placing these cups firmly within Gorham\'s most celebrated period of Japanese-inspired silverwork, alongside other well-documented Japonisme pieces from the same year.
