Antique Japanese Satsuma Bowl Meiji Era Phoenix Gilt Polychrome 7.5\" Marked For Sale

Beautifully decorated inside and out with elaborate polychrome enamel and gilt decoration. The exterior features a bold black-and-cream checkerboard band, scrolling green foliate borders, colorful floral elements, and large phoenix-style medallions. The interior is extensively decorated with alternating geometric, floral and scrolling motifs in red, blue, green, cream and gold.

The bowl has a finely crazed cream-colored glaze characteristic of this type of Japanese pottery, a gilt rim, and a decorated raised foot.

Multiple impressed marks are present on the underside. The specific maker has not been identified, so this piece is being offered without a maker attribution.
