sale Item Description.
Up for sale is a scarce 1899 commercial cover from the period of U.S. Military Administration in Cuba, mailed internationally to Lomas de Cabrera, Dominican Republic. This historic cover features a U.S. 2¢ green Washington postal stationery envelope overprinted "CUBA. / 2c. de Peso.", uprated with an adhesive 3¢ purple Andrew Jackson stamp overprinted "CUBA / 3c. de PESO." to meet the 5¢ international postal rate. Both the indicia and adhesive are tied by crisp strikes, featuring a clear "Santiago / Cuba" circular date stamp dated August 5, 1899, with a matching four-bar duplex killer cancel. The front shows a well-preserved hand-written destination address. The reverse features a partial backstamp transit mark.
The envelope remains intact with standard edge wear and natural aging consistent with 19th-century West Indies postal transit. Reduction right side. Please see the high-resolution front and back scans for exact condition details.
