Morgan Dennis (1892 to 1960) was born in Boston and becameone of the most popular dog artists in America. His Scotties for Black &White Scotch whisky ads made the breed a national symbol in the 1930s, and hewent on to write and illustrate dog books including \"Pete\" and\"The Morgan Dennis Dog Book.\" His etchings from 1925 to 1935 are thecore of his collected work.
The title comes from the old proverb \"it\'s a wise childthat knows its own father.\" The grown Scottie looks down, the puppy looksup, and the whole joke is in the two heads. Signed in pencil below the plateand titled in pencil at lower left; plate signature and date lower right.
CONDITION: Rich, dark impression. A few small foxing spotsin the upper plate area, shown in the photos. Mat is lightly toned. Wood framewith light wear. Not removed from the frame.
