It is hand-numbered asNo. 407and features the authentic signature of the artist,Fritz Eichenberg, on the colophon/limitation page located at the front of the book.
- The Artwork:While Eichenberg is widely recognized for his stark black-and-white wood engravings, this premium edition explicitly showcases hisoriginal, vibrant full-color watercolor and gouache paintings. The illustrations are rich, fluid, and painterly, providing a stark contrast to his typical sharp linework and beautifully evoking the opulence of Imperial Russia. Because subsequent mass-market reprints flattened or converted these plates to monochrome, this limited volume preserves the artwork exactly as the artist intended.
