Sabal x brazoriensis 'Megacarpa' Seeds. HUGE SEEDS:
$8.99
Sabal x brazoriensis is a Sabal of hybrid origins from a small area in Brazoria County, TX, and DNA analysis has concluded that it is a hybrid between Sabal minor and Sabal palmetto. This particular palm came from seed from a palm tree at NC State. They started their palm from seed collected in habitat in Brazoria County, TX several decades ago. What's interesting about this palm is the seed size. They are absolutely HUGE! It's definitely not a Sabal mexicana though, nor Sabal pumos, and it blooms about 6 weeks before Sabal palmetto does. The seeds ripen up in October, which is about the same time that Sabal minor or x brazoriensis ripen as well (Sabal mexicana and pumos ripen later in the winter). It's proven to be just as cold-hardy as normal Sabal x brazoriensis.
