Vintage Chinese Cloisonné Eight-Bell Tabletop Chime (Bianzhong -Style)
Mid-to-late 20th-century Chinese decorative bell chime in traditional graduated form. Eight brass and cloisonné enamel bells hung on carved wooden frame with a dark cherry style finish. Colorful enamel abstract design. The pressed brass suspension fittings are shaped as stylized bats (蝙蝠, biānfú), an auspicious Chinese motif associated through wordplay with good fortune (福, fú).
Closely spaced bells produce a nice little tone when jostled or struck, they tend to bump into each other. If you put this on a consul table in an old home with wood floors it might very gently sound when you walk by. Approximately 6.5 inches tall at the highest point and a little over 12 inches wide across the base, with the upper rail extending somewhat farther. Displayed for many years, but was put in climate controlled storage about 15 years ago. Now freshly cleaned and ready for a new home.
Condition
- Very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, dents, enamel losses, or other damage observed.
- All eight bells were removed and cleaned individually. They are clean and display ready.
- All S-link suspension fittings are closed, and the bells hang securely.
- The wooden frame is stable, with tight joints, nothing loose or repaired.
- Striker is included.
